Background

For nearly three millennia, the Redmont name was synonomous with those who stalked the undead in hopes of being the balance that ruled the darkness. They found opposition in lurking in every realm they ventured to, and only the worst of those locales were abandoned by the silver-toting hunters. Armed with weaponry developed and enhanced over time, they became the only family of slayers to last throughout time. Their skills were renowned, for they were quite simply the best at what they did. A few Redmonts over time branched out to hunt demons and the like, but their initial belief has never changed; they strive for equal harmony between all races that live and breathe. From the most determined human to the mightest lycanthrope, to the fastest elf; they valued life enough to feel they needed to guard it, and fight for the existence of others. However, there was a dark secret hidden in the past of the family.

A thousand years into their bloody crusade, Ainsley Redmont eventually chose to sell her soul in exchange for power - and become the demonic Queen of the Redmont Brood. She was eventually defeated fifty years later, and her reign of terror was foolishly covered up by the remnants of the Dynasty. With the horror of the Brood behind them, the family fixated on rebuilding for nearly two centuries, and the secret was foolishly forgotten. And yet, there were some stains of blood on the Redmont history that just couldn't be washed away.

One thousand and three hundred years later, Demetri Ravenholm possessed the body of then-Lord Christopher Redmont and the Brood was awakened once more. Only the efforts of Naralis Redmont, the Crusader/Sophia Redmont, the Sentinel/Gogol Redmont, the Harvester/Jass Strata, the Temptress were enough to stop him from success, though they sacrificed any chance of becoming human in the process. Again, the remnants of the Dynasty covered it up, pretending that it never happened. The legend of the Four Saints was known only to the nobility, and their deeds went unrecognized. For some reason, none of the Dynasty members understood that history was destined to repeat itself for as long as they tried to ignore it. To that end, they became naive. Blinded by ideals of honor, they eventually suffered a crushing defeat by a rival family a hundred years after dealing that same fate to their opponents; after that, both houses strayed from each other.

It was during this time that the Redmonts came across a rogue gathering of demons, and a conflict ensued. It resulted in a plot that would unravel the family nearly three hundred and fifty years later. The demons were dispatched one by one, and their estate was buried. Upon that tomb of abysmal hatred, the estate for the slayers was commissioned and built.

Over the next several centuries, the Redmonts engaged several covens of undead, some so heavily prepared that they had formed alliances with other abominations to try and defeat the slayers; all of them inevitably failed. In time, Lord Nathaniel Redmont and Lady Eleanor Redmont had their first heirs, a son named Maxim and a daughter, named Aubrey. Unknown to either of them, Mikayla - a witch and the sister of Eleanor Redmont - switched her daughter with her niece to keep them safe. This ruse was never discovered until years later, when Mikayla revealed the dark secret to Maxim and Isabella themselves, after Aubrey had died. Nathaniel was killed when Maxim was sixteen, and Eleanor found herself as the ruling presence of the most powerful generation of the family yet. To her credit, she displayed a level of leadership only her children themselves would ever be able to match, and was regarded by most Redmonts as the best ruler they'd had. However, grief eventually took over, and Eleanor stepped down to pursue revenge against the killers of her husband. He was crowned Lord of the Redmont Dynasty, and a plan that had been waiting for centuries was set into motion. The Ravenholm possessed the human body of Maxim for a time, resulting in his death; however, it didn't stop the remnants of the Dynasty from going to great lengths to resurrect their fallen leader, and after one failed attempt, Maxim Redmont was returned to them.

They enjoyed only a short period of peace, before Maxim was eventually captured by a council of ancient vampires; he was eventually embraced by the leader, and became the very thing he had sought to destroy. Humanity had betrayed him, and as such, he betrayed the vampiress who had turned him, slaughtering the entire council. As a human, Maxim had been naive - as a vampire, he was ruthless.

The third incarnation of the Brood - led by Maxim Redmont, the undead Kinslayer - was easily the most powerful yet. Daphne McKennah Redmont, his wife, died in an effort to save him from himself; a debt that she'd repay nearly two years later by attempting to murder him. With Jass Strata by his side, Maxim inevitably began a campaign of bloodshed across the isles, and in time, Isabella joined him as well. She became undead by his hand, to save her from a plague - but unlike her twin brother, Isabella was a vampire who could endure the daylight. As a result, she became the enforcer of his will, and his second-in-command.

However, not every evil goes unchecked. Driven by a sense of purpose, Daphne Redmont set out on a quest for redemption. Inspired by her selfless example, the few remaining Dynasty members were united once more, determined to defend the isles from the terror of the Brood. And so, the final civil war of the Redmont Bloodline began: King Maxim Redmont and his murderous Brood, versus Lady Daphne Redmont and her valiant Dynasty...
